"While in AREA Five, South Vietnam, SAVAGE conducted a Medical Civilian Assistance Program (MEDCAP) at Tuy Phong, South Vietnam. The MEDCAP team consisted of the ship's Executive Officer, Squadron Doctor, ship's Hospital Corpsmen and various aides. This MEDCAP Mission was very successful and approximately One hundred and Fifty South Vietnamese citizens were treated. Such MEDCAP missions also affforded the crew with a first hand look at the situation in Vietnam and a better understanding of the people of Vietnam."
